16 August 2010. Large vehicles sometimes try to cut through our narrow residential backstreets to reach High Road Tottenham.
Back in 2007 I tried – and failed – to get Unsuitable For Large Vehicles signs put up at the entrance to some streets where residents’ cars are often damaged. This articulated truck tried – and failed – to negotiate the corner of Dowsett Road and Parkhurst Road without driving over the kerb.
So I’m asking again.

Council Aware stickers on three bags of garbage left in Thackeray Avenue.
"And it’s getting worse", she said.
Why do people leave trash on the street when there’s a free weekly collection from their homes?
As Winston Churchill might have said ─ had he lived in Tottenham ─ it is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, stuffed into a black plastic bag.
To be fair, I pointed out to Emma that earlier the same day mattresses thrown out round the corner in Parkhurst Road were quickly removed. Although rapid and efficient removal of dumping is not the same as preventing dumping.

Photograph of the Central Square in Keene New Hampshire.
"This photograph, made near the middle of the winter of 1906-07, is remarkable for the absence of snow. It contains a number of former landmarks, such as the band stand, built in 1904 and removed in 1913, and the "wigwam" covering the fountain, erected to the memory of Allan Parkhurst Ingersoll. The fountain was damaged on the night of July 3rd, 1898, by a cannon cracker. It was repaired but in a few years was removed and its present whereabouts are unknown."

As if it wasn’t enough to have roadworks, snarled-up traffic and a rainy August !
Tottenham Hale residents also have to walk past yet another pile of stinking rubbish at someone’s favourite dumping corner.
I asked Haringey’s Enforcement Team if they can take a look at the bags and maybe get evidence of who this came from.

Another of Zena’s photos taken during a short walk to the shops. One more litter bin with rubbish frequently dumped next to it.
Such a treat for neighbours, cats, and foxes. And a great example for children, of course.
